And then there was this flying friend

The monarch migration is starting to come through town.
This one was feet away from the spot where I found the hawk this morning.

A much more majestic expression

Pretty sure my neighbor has named him Stephen, as in Stephen Hawking

Community Garden in June

Our community garden is growing.  After staring at it everyday this spring, waiting for movement, I harvest my first peppers!  And forgot to take a picture :(  But here are some others of the garden...

Missing Paul

My friend Paul died way too soon, just about 5 years ago.  He knew he was sick and asked me to take a picture of him all cleaned up, so his family would have a "nice" photo to remember him by.  I just received this email from Paul's brother, and I was so happy to see my picture.  Glad I could do something for Paul, after he did so much for me.
Five years later and I miss him still, probably always will.

Dear Friends,
Six years ago when we started visiting Paul every few months, we noticed a lovely orchid that someone--quite probably one of you--had given him.  The week that Paul died (we were there), the orchid came home with us and has lived in a kitchen window beside Paul's photograph ever since.  About once a year, it faithfully blooms.  A couple of weeks ago I noticed that it had put out a stem, which then got fat with buds.  In the past few days, the first two buds have opened into beautiful blossoms.
Thanks to whomever gave it to Paul.  Five years after his death (and with one repotting) it continues to put forth beauty.  Thanks again to all of you for the joy that you brought into Paul's life, and for being such good friends to him.

Bees are such drama queens

Bees swarm in the springtime and we had five in 2 weeks.
The most wholesome drama and emergencies our street has ever seen!

The first, largest, and only wild swarm.  Look at it--its huge!!

A local bee keeper showed up to take home the wild swarm.

#3 (no pictures of 2) split from our healthy hive in the community garden.

As did #4

#5 went off with yet another beekeeper.
Good luck bees!
